According to Bloody Disgusting’s sources, Evil Dead II writer Scott Spiegel has been approached to write and direct Hostel III.

But before you get too excited, we feel it’s our moral duty to remind you that he also wrote and directed From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money, which isn’t one of our favourite sequels of all time.

He’s only in discussions apparently, and if you’ve read our previous Hostel III story, you’ll know exactly how we want that conversation to go.

Kevin Smith has posted his reaction to The Dark Knight on Myspace, becoming the 2323rd online commentator to drop the Godfather II comparison bomb.

Okay, so maybe not quite that many people have compared Nolan’s sequel to Coppola’s masterpiece - but if you include talkbackers, we’d bet that estimate’s pretty close.

Still, we’d wager he’s the first person to compare E.T. to Nazi madman Josef Mengele.

Our very own Edgar Wright has been talking his future projects with piqmag and we especially like what he’s got to say about Ant Man.

Wright said: “I wrote that for Marvel and I’m in the process of doing a second draft. I had a lot of fun writing that script, I wrote it with this guy Joe Cornish, who is a really funny UK writer.

It’s not really an out-and-out comedy. I think some people assume that it must be a spoof, but it’s not really. I guess it’s as funny as something like Iron Man is, it’s on that level of entertainment, really.

It’s a big, high concept, special effects comic book adaptation, and very character-led and we found a way of… I guess in a similar way to Iron Man, the thing that worked with that and hopefully will with this is that it’s a different way of seeing a superhero origin, because you’ve seen so many of them and we really tried to figure out a fresh take on that story. So it’s definitely a Marvel film but it’s got a little twist on it in terms of the way that it plays out.”

Don’t look for Pixar’s winning streak at the box office to end any time soon – the animation behemoth has just snagged its ninth number one and joint third biggest opening thanks to Wall-E taking in an estimated $62.5 million.

But that wasn’t the only success story of the week: Wanted also did well, storming past expectations to shoot $51.1 million from cinemagoers this weekend. That meant a record-shattering weekend with two movies opening over $50 million.

The success of the two new blockbusters shoved everyone else down, with Ger Smart dropping to third for $20 million and Kung Fu Panda sinking to fourth and making $11.7 million this weekend. The Incredible Hulk went down from second to fifth place, nabbing $9.2 million, while The Love Guru sank from fourth to sixth and took in $5.4 million.

Clinging on in the middle of the charts, Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull made $5 million, while The Happening lost less than expected in eighth place with $3.8 million.

At the bottom of the charts sit Sex And The City with $3.7 million and You Don’t Mess With The Zohan, which made $3.2 million.

Assassins are hot at the box office right now (just ask James McAvoy and the Wanted crew), so it makes sense that studios would now be rooting round for any remaining bullet-strewn source material to develop.

Warners has acquired the rights to upcoming Oni Press comic Billy Smoke, and is busy negotiating with Speed Racer’s Matthew Fox to star as an elite hit man who is nearly killed on a botched job. It sparks a change of heart in him, and sends him on a quest to rid the world of hired killers.

The Hollywood Reporter has the project in its sights.

Two very different promos have wandered into the trailer park today. The latest is the final full trailer for Hellboy II: The Golden Army, which Guillermo del Toro will unleash on us in August.

It’s full of everything that makes Hellboy II look like a ton of fun and leaps and bounds ahead of the original. Check it out in glorious HD over at Apple. Oh, and there’s a new featurette up there too…

Also arriving this weekend was the decidedly odd first full trailer for Repo! The Genetic Opera, from the Saw team. The movie musical features Buffy’s Anthony Head as one of the organ repossession team from a devastated future world where organ transplants are easy, but paying for them is a nightmare. It looks bizarre yet strangely brilliant. See it here.

Ah, summer… the time when a young psychopath’s fancy turns to skinning someone else and nicking their skin to use as a mask. Oh, wait… hold on – it’s just the latest poster from the Saw bods.

Never ones to rest on their laurels, the Lionsgate marketing department have stepped up again to bring us the disturbing image of Jigsaw’s face skinned and strapped onto someone else’s noggin. Yeah, thanks for that. Peep it if you dare over here.

Much more traditional (and only darker because the lights are out) is the poster for Punisher: War Game. Unlike the teaser, which drew the Punisher’s iconic skull design in bullet holes, this is Ray Stevenson standing with a gun and a grenade. See it over at IGN.

The Dark Knight isn’t even out yet and people are already looking ahead to a possible third film. And some of those people are asking cast members about it.

MovieWeb got talking to Gary Oldman and Chris Nolan at a junket and quizzed the pair on ideas for a follow-up to the new movie. Oldman admitted that he thought the Joker could be re-cast if absolutely need be following the tragic death of Heath Ledger, but he also floated the idea that The Riddler might be the next villain to be tackled.

Nolan, however, can’t even begin to think about anything beyond his next project, which is unlikely to include anyone in a Bat suit. He’s not even sure he wants to make another Batman movie, but then he said that after Begins and look what he did… We’re hopeful he’ll make it to a trilogy. Click the link for much more.

We’d say we’re surprised that Helena Bonham Carter is considering taking a role in the new Terminator film. But with Christian Bale on board and McG directing (plus all those plot rumours), nothing is really surprising us about it at the moment.

So yes, Tim Burton’s muse is negotiating to play what is described as a “pivotal” role, despite it being small. So who do you think she would play? Sarah Connor in a flashback? A female cyborg? Hit the forums and let us know… The Hollywood Reporter is watching the machines.
