The Vice Fly 53 tour kicks off this week
Band record album, band release album, band tour album. The same never-ending, process goes on and on forever. Yawn. Fly53 and VICE have come together to break the chain of boredom and present short, sporadic FREE tours inspired simply by inspiring acts.

The line-ups will not be influenced by anything in particular other than the bands, artists and DJ’s being too good for you to ignore. The dates will not go on and on forever. They will be curt, high-octane bursts of galvanising activity. Like little musical happy slaps. That are actually happy and don’t hurt. Oh. And you have to pay NOTHING to see this thoughtfully put together package of amazingness.
The Fly53 Tour is ongoing and its little guerrilla attacks on the humdrum UK live scene will take place every few months. As soon as a line-up that is too good to ignore comes together the tour will be mobilised. Just when you think it’s time to give up hope again the Fly53 Tour will be there to save both your soul and your night out.
The first round in this continuing campaign features Portuguese kuduru ghettotech pioneers Buraka Som Sistema, club beats from recent Modular signings Bumblebeez and up and coming shiny hip pop talent Mapei plus exclusive special guest DJs to be revealed on the night. Not bad for 0 eh?
To get your free tickets all you need to do is register online. Go to www.fly53tour.com NOW to register.
Buraka Som Sistema have been involved in Portugal’s underground urban club and free party scene for years. They have been working soundsystems, mcing producing, promoting and fusing global dance culture with European beats since MIA was in Pampers. While everyone else in 2008 seems to be looking towards Afrobeat, Tropicalia and High Life to steal bits from like they’d never heard Graceland before Buraka somehow manage to fuse the energy of Angola’s unique Kuduru with Niche basslines and Ghettotech beats to spit out an impossibly high energy dancefloor sound and incendiary live performance.

Bumblebeez’s take a cavalier approach to that pesky question of genre. In fact they kind of stick two fingers up at the whole concept and straddle punk, electro house and sleazy rap without breaking stride. Whether they are supporting Radiohead and pissing off 10,000 beard stroking indier than thou guys in a field or making the whole of Fabric move on a Friday night Bumblebeez’s are not a live act to miss. Ever.

Mapei is from Sweden. Her urgent, Hip-Hop, Pop, Clubmusic highbred make Santogold sound like she’s already in a mid-career slump. How can you beat music about guns, girls and late nights with hooks you’ll be humming all the way home and beats produced by Ed Banger’s DJ Mehdi? Well, you could try but Mapei would still come out on top dancing off into the dawn towards the next party where all the best girls and guys are waiting to do the whole thing all over again.
